School-Age
St. Joseph's provides a school-age program designed specifically for the needs of 5-12 year olds. These school savvy children need supervision and developmentally appropriate activities before and after school.
Examples of lessons for school-age children, organized in yearly increments may include the following activities:
- Library/language - Read books, journal writing and listen to CDs on a topic
- Music - Listen to classical music, make musical instruments
- Drama - Write and put on a skit with costumes
- Dance - Learn dance and movement
- Technology - Computer use, building simple machines
- Math - Measure and collect information and document findings
- Cooking/Nutrition - Learn to plan, shop for, cook and serve a meal
- Outdoor/Physical/Sports - Play on a variety of equipment, learn a new game, organize a game, scooters, bikes, jump rope
- Art/Culture/Crafts - Arts and crafts around a theme
- Science - Conduct an experiment, observe and document results
- Mental health/Safety - Learn to participate/work as a member of a team on a expedition
